My Background
I have been in private practice since 1987. I earned my PhD in psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA and interned at Kaiser Permanente Psychiatry in Oakland, CA. In addition to my private practice, I am a Community Supervisor with The Wright Institute Addison Street Community Clinic in Berkeley, California. I am a member of the San Francisco Psychological Association and of the American Psychological Association.
I have held a number of academic administrative positions including Associate Dean at Saybrook Institute, and Director of Field Training and later President of the San Francisco School of Psychology. I am a founding member and former board President of California Psychology Internship Council, a consortium of graduate schools of psychology and intern training sites. I have taught a variety of psychology and administrative courses in the Bay Area. During the 1990s, I had the pleasure of consulting with the faculty of the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute in Estonia about their psychology-training program after Estonia’s independence from the Soviet Union.
Prior to entering the field of psychology, I was an educator and teacher. I did my undergraduate training at William Paterson University in New Jersey on a state scholarship and my graduate training at Hofstra University in New York with a Fellowship Award from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. I taught in public schools in New Jersey and in California. During that time I was also an instructor for University of California Extension in Berkeley, CA. The highlight of my career as an educator was co-founding Synergy School, a progressive elementary and middle school in San Francisco, CA. I remain an active member of the school’s Board of Trustees.
